Ahh, Mother's Day! One of my favorite days! I am so blessed....I have a very special mother, a mother-in-law that is the best, and the opportunity to be a mother. Beautiful day at church. Cooked lunch for all the family. I love it when we all get together! Happy Mother's Day to all the very special mothers.

I just love Fridays! I get to take Toryn to speech in Midland, and then somedays we just spend quality time together! Never gets boring! I LOVE it! I still get all teary eyed watching him with Ms. Debbie at speech. He tries so hard and he's doing so well! I get to sit outside the speech room and watch him through a one way mirror. I look at some of the other mothers and they are sitting there looking bored stiff as they're reading magazines. Not me, I don't want to miss a single moment. It's just fun and rewarding. I often sit there, praying and thanking God over and over for bringing this sweet child home. One more milestone...watching him improve each time on his talking/speech which would have not ever been corrected if God had not brought him home.

On this particular Friday, we took our lunch to this pretty little pond with ducks to feed. Such a beautiful day. I think we stayed a couple of hours. Toryn loved the ducks! We had such a great time!

Treagan, Toryn, Emily, Vickie, & I went to the Abilene Zoo yesterday. We were suppose to go with Joann & her kids, and Debbie & her kids, but they each had sick kiddos. We will certainly have to go back when they can join us. We had a great time, and the Abilene Zoo makes such a fun, cheap, day of entertainment. It was a cloudy day, which was nice, but the wind had to be blowing at least 90 miles per hour! (as you can tell from the pictures of my hair)

We were so glad Treagan went with us, because he was so much help. We soon nicknamed him "The Nanny". I'm not sure he was real impressed with his new job title. LOL

My beautiful cousin, Alicia, got married this past weekend, on Sat., March 13th, in Wichita Falls. It was a beautiful wedding, and we had a great time seeing family that we had not seen in a while.

We look forward to getting to know Mason better & welcome him to the family. He seems like a really great guy! We wish them many happy blessings.

Today was not only Valentine's Day, but it was also Chinese New Year! We celebrated by attending church, then we met the Lansford's for lunch. Of course, it was only appropriate to eat Chinese food, so we went to China Dragon. It was alot of fun and we had a really nice time. Lisa thought of everything! Since 2010 is the year of the tiger, they gave Toryn & KayLi a stuffed tiger. We all decided we would wear red, since that seemed appropriate, too. This morning before church, when I dressed Toryn in his red vest and tie, he was so proud. He kept telling me, "Look, Mom, I so pretty!". Happy Chinese New Year to our little Chinese Dumplings!

So proud of Treagan! His ensemble made a Division I at Solo & Ensemble Contest yesterday at Monahans. They played "The Entertainer". They were awesome! Forsan took 52 high school kids, came home with 77 medals, and 100% made Division I ratings! Does that say anything about our amazing band directors and kids? Congratulations Mr. Rhodes, Ms. Hoelscher, and kiddos! You all make us so proud! Congrats, Treagan Blake! This is one proud Mama!

We also celebrated Tessa's 19th Birthday this weekend. I can't even believe my girl is that old! Can't possibly be so! So glad she got to come home this weekend for her birthday. Everyone tells me that it does get easier when they leave to go back to college, but it hasn't happened yet! I still bawl like a baby when her little red car drives off. Toryn turned four on Sat., Jan. 30th, but we didn't have a party until this past weekend, because Tessa was home from college. We just had a party here at the house with hotdogs, cake, and good friends and family.
When we asked Toryn what kind of birthday party theme he wanted, he immediately said "John Wayne Birthday Party". Toryn loves John Wayne movies and to play 'John Wayne'. Not hard to believe, since his daddy loves John Wayne. How many four year olds do you know that chooses John Wayne over cartoons. Go figure! Of course, Termite calls him "Chon Wayne". Seems appropriate! LOL
When we asked him what he wanted on his cake, he said that he wanted John Wayne's guns. Thanks to his talented Aunt Kim, she hooked him up with the cutest cake ever, and yep, it had John Wayne's guns! Thanks, Aunt Kim.

A year ago, God changed my life like I could have never imagined. You see, He gave me something I was lacking. Something huge! He gave me a family, a home, and tons of love. None of this was familiar to me, as I had none of it. He has filled my life with many other blessings, too! Much extended family to spoil me too, many new friends who are pretty special, and doctors who were able to meet my medical needs and perform miraculous surgery. God also brought me to a country where I have the freedom to grow up in a fabulous church and have a loving church family, where I can learn more about Him. This list of blessings goes on and on. My mom and dad like to tell me how God used many kind, loving, giving people to make this all happen. You were one of these generous persons. I don't truly understand it all right now, but when I'm older, I probably will. Whatever kind act you did, whether it be helped with a fundraiser, gave a donation, or most importantly prayed for me, etc., please know that my family and I are so thankful. We ask God often to bless you like only He can! Thanks from the bottom of my heart!

...and why did I clean house the night before Christmas? That was dumb!

Tessa wanted some rainboots since it actually rains in Arlington where she is going to college.

Treagan got a really cool jacket. He loved it (especially since he picked it out. lol) Couldn't pass it up, we saw it while we were in Arlington, and he really wanted it, so I made him let me wrap it. Plus, it was on sale!

Santa Clause put some new houseshoes in Toryn's stocking.

Santa Clause also brought Toryn a Batman tricycle, aka...motorcycle as he calls it.
He was thrilled. (Note: Toryn wore these Chrismas pajamas just last year when we were in China for Christmas. They were long then....notice how short they are now. Yep, he's grown, I do believe.)

We went to Grandma Wilma's for lunch and presents. Here, Toryn is thanking Grandma for his little guitar she gave him. Toryn is all about music and instruments. He loves any kind of instrument, but is real thrilled that he won't have to use Treagan's tennis racket for his guitar anymore. He loves for me to sing while he plays. (He's the only one that loves it! haha) His favorite to play is "Deep and Wide" and "This Little Light of Mine".

Christmas evening, we went out to Tim & Kim's for the Kendrick Christmas. Grandma Helen has given all the kids a new ornament each year. The kids love this tradition and always hang their ornaments with pride each year.

Timothy had drawn Toryn's name and gave him this awesome keyboard. Again, Toryn loved it because he loves to play music! (Thanks everyone for giving him nothing but noise makers this year. His mom & dad are so excited!)

Celebrating Gotcha Day- 12/22/09

I wanted to try to come up with a special tradition to start to celebrate Gotcha Day. Since Termite and I worked today (and different shifts), it made it a challenge to do something with the whole family. We went to the local Chinese restaurant. Seems only appropriate to have Chinese food to celebrate. It was nice to have Tessa home from college, so she could join us. Unfortunately, Termite had to work, so he didn't get to join us, maybe next year. I still can't believe it has been a year since this sweet boy was placed in my arms. What a fun year it's been!

A year ago, Toryn wasn't smiling quite so big when he was getting a hug from me. I love these mama moments!

This boy LOVES noodles! It was so cute when I put his plate down in front of him. He immediately looked up at the waitress and said, "Chopsticks", just as if he uses them at every meal. In fact, when we first got home last year, we gave him some to see if he knew how to use them, and he seemed to not know how. Some of the other children knew how, but I guess he had not been exposed to them. The waitress brought him some, and this is how he used them for his noodles.

"I think I will try the fork now. Seems I can do that much faster!"

A year ago today, God gave us a blessing that changed our life forever! He fulfilled a dream that I had for a long time. A desire to be used to change a life for better. A desire to add more love and joy to our home. A desire to do God's will and fulfill His calling. A longing to bring my child home from across the world. Today has been a year, since He did just that. He gave us our little asian sensation. A year ago today, Yang Ling Jun, was placed in my arms, and then became Toryn Ling Kendrick. I cannot believe it has been a year. What a year of blessings it has been. How this sweet boy has melted this heart. How this sweet boy has taught me so much...like how when you trust God with all you have, He will carry you through, not just some of the way, but every step. Oh, how I love this little guy. He is so much fun and has brought so much joy to our family. Many times, I just sit back and watch him enjoy life. I have loved watching him blossum and grow. I can't imagine what his life would have been like, stuck in that orphanage. Oh, how thankful we are that God rescued him. I just can't understand what I have done to deserve the blessings God has given me. I guess, really, we don't deserve any of God's goodness, but because of who He is, He loves us enough to bless us anyway. I cannot imagine life without Toryn. Thank you so much, Lord!

God used MANY people to help bring Toryn home, and we are still humbled at everyone's generosity. We are so grateful to each of you that made this possible. Rather you supported or helped with our fundraisers, gave a donation, prayed for us, or whatever kind act you did, please know that we still pray that God blesses you in big ways. Thank you, thank you, thank you!

Our Little Star!

How cute! The Toddler Dept. at church sang for us tonight. What a blessing! Toryn's first performance. He did so good. (You never know- he can be very moody at times. lol) He was in the best mood. Before church, he kept telling me he was going to play a horn. Probably because Treagan had his band concert this past week and Toryn LOVES anything to do with the band. When I asked him what instrument he was going to play tonight at church, he said 'tuba'. Made my heart sing (I played tuba in school :) No, he didn't play a horn, but he did get to jingle some bells. He was also very excited about wearing his tie. He looked adorable and of course was the cutest one up there. I'm not partial or anything! Yes, you know me, I was teary eyed through the whole thing. Couldn't help but think about how wonderful God is to bring this sweet boy home from China where he has the freedom to sing and praise His holy name. Can't believe that on Tuesday, God placed this sweet child in my arms! More on that Tuesday, our Gotcha Day anniversary!

Toryn's Sunday School teachers gave him this soccer ball. He has been wanting one and he was very excited when they gave in to him.

Christmas Party at Southfork Ranch

I was totally pumped when Toryn received an invitation to a Christmas Party hosted by Dr. Genecov and his staff (Craniofacial Institute) at Southfork Ranch. What made it even better was that we were already going to be in that area meeting with the lady from our agency for our LAST meeting, which is the 12 month post placement report. The icing on the cake, of course, was getting to spend time with Tessa. =)
The party was really fun. It wasn't quite what I expected, but the kids were having a blast and that's what it was all about. I was pretty excited that it was at Southfork Ranch, remembering that Dad & Mom were faithful viewers of the show Dallas. Of course, Tessa and Treagan wanted to know what was so special about Southfork Ranch. Geez- such youngsters. We actually didn't get to go into the house, so that was a little disappointing. A lady from Radio Disney kind of hosted the party. (Treagan just knew they would let Miley come! lol) They had different activities for the children like crafts, games, dances, a firetruck ride, and snakes for the kids to hold. YES, you read that right! How crazy is that?!!! Toryn LOVED the snakes and didn't want to do anything else. (there is something seriously wrong with that boy!) I, on the other hand, like snakes about as much as I like mice, which is absolutely, positively NONE whatsoever!!!! HATE THEM!!!! I did take pictures, as you can see below, thanking God the entire time for ZOOM lenses! The most precious part of the whole party was the fact that there were tons of children there with craniofacial birth defects, many cleft children, and many more severe. These children were having the time of their lives and not a care in the world. One little girl, probably about 4 or 5 years old, was very disfigured, but I will never forget those beautiful blue eyes and that precious smile plastered on her little face when she was "dancing" in her wheelchair that her daddy was pushing. Priceless, just priceless. Beautiful children and oh, how I'm reminded of how truly blessed we are. Yes, I was given a child with one of these birth defects, but when he smiles, you don't see that scar at all. Instead, you see one of God's masterpieces. I am so thankful that God has given these extremely talented surgeons the ability to perform these miraculous surgeries. WOW! Truly, behind the face of these children is a heart!

Snow Day

It's not very often that we have snow here in West Texas, and when it does snow a little, we get very excited. Pretty sad when you can see the grass through the snow, but oh well, we'll take what we can get. Best part was that it was enough to close school! Yippee!

I don't know if Toryn has ever seen snow, but I do know that I will never forget the excitement on his face when we opened the door this morning. He loved it, and didn't want to come in. I was very excited to get the Christmas decorations down. I couldn't wait to see Toryn's face as we got the decorations out. Sure enough, the expressions on his face were precious. He would also squeal with excitement. It's going to be a great time this year having him home with us for Christmas. Yes, we actually had him for Christmas last year, but we were still in China. There is no place like home!

Crazy Cousins! Treagan, Payton, Tessa, Toryn, Taylor

Ahh, so many blessings this year. Way too many to list! I am one blessed girl! I have so much to thank God for, one being the addition of Toryn to our family this year. It has been such fun with him. I am thankful for our loving God who takes such amazing care of me. I'm thankful for my hardworking, wonderful hubby who is the bomb. I'm thankful for my sweet kids who continue to make me so proud in the wise and Christ-like decisions that they make. I'm thankful that Tessa chose to go to Arlington Baptist College, because she wants to serve God with her beautiful voice. I am thankful for Treagan who keeps me rolling with his sense of humor, and I love his big heart. Hmm, the list goes on and on. I am one blessed mama!

We started the day by going to my mom's for lunch. Ymmm, her dressing is the very best! I love family time and I love all of us being together. That evening, we went to Tim & Kim's for the Kendrick side. Yep, I ate more yummy food there, too. The day is never long enough and the time together is certainly not either!

We were also thankful that Jimmy (my sister's husband) made it home finally. He has been working in Wyoming for the past 75 days. Toryn has not been around Uncle Jimmy a whole lot, but sure was glad he made a good wrestling partner! Taylor (on the couch) is very glad his daddy is home, too.

Catching Up Again:
November 2-3, 2009

Well, the Forsan High School Band did it again! They marched their way to the state competition again. Wow! They were awesome! Unfortunately, they weren't able to defend their state championship title, but they got second. We are still so proud of them! 2nd place in our huge state of Texas, is pretty good, I'd say. Think how many 1-A schools there are in Texas that would have loved to be able to even attend. To march in the Alamodome in San Antonio, Texas is just overwhelming and exciting. The Forsan crowd is always the loudest fans there. It just gives me cold chills to see our awesome band, with our really awesome director, Mr. Rhodes, marching down that ramp onto that amazing field. Way to go, Forsan Band! I'm proud of you, Treagan! Next time (Nov. 2011), we'll get that title back where it belongs!

At our fall festival at the church. Our youth group put on the fall festival as a fundraiser. It was held at our new church parking lot. It was a great turnout and the youth group made $2700 which helps them go towards youth camp and mission trips.

Praise the Lord, about a month ago, we finally found a speech therapist. I was trying real hard to find one here in Big Spring, but had no luck. We do have several here in town, but they all work for the school system. We could use them, but they were not able to see Toryn two to three times a week like was needed. I was able to find one in Midland, and she is wonderful! I am now kicking myself for not going there first, because it is so wonderful. We have been going for about a month now, and we can see some progress with Toryn's speech. It is a really neat, kid friendly, office. The waiting room is the coolest. It is decorated with a jungle theme. When Toryn goes in the room with Ms. Debbie for his session, I get to sit on the outside and watch through a little window. It's pretty neat!

A Little Catching up...what we've been up to!

It seems almost impossible to blog these days, even though I do enjoy it! I have been reminded a couple of times this week, that some of you still like to read our happenings, which kind of surprises me, because we are pretty boring people, but at the same time I am honored that many of you still follow us.

Where to begin.... well we will start with Tessa since many of you have asked how she is doing at college. Basically, in a nutshell, SHE LOVES IT...EVERYTHING ABOUT IT! Although, she misses her mother terrible! lol, She just has to be, surely, right? She has done so well, and I'm so proud of her. She has met many new friends, her classes are going well, and she misses her mother. Oh, did I already mention that? She has become active in a church there, well, actually just down the road in Grand Prarie. This weekend and the next, she is helping the church do a play (I guess you call it a play.?), called Judgement House. She said it is the most awesome thing ever. There are eight scenes, and like four main characters, where some get to go to Heaven and some, unfortunately go to Hell. She said that the church has done this for the past two years, and over 500 people have been saved. She said it is so realistic, even though there's no way it could even compare to the real Heaven or Hell. She plays a part where she is in hell. Treagan and I are going to get to go up this weekend and we will go see it. Tessa is still hoping and looking for a job. She had another interview this week at a different daycare, and it sounds real promising. It would be perfect with great hours of like 2:00 to 6:30, Mon. thru Fri. Ideal! So we are praying. She has became active in some different activities, for instant, cheering for the basketball team. For those of you that know Tessa, and how she has NEVER wanted any part of that sort of thing, is probably as shocked as I was when she told me. I think...it might be because there is a hot guy on the b-ball team that catches her attention? Let's not tell her Daddy that, ok? ;) Keep praying for Tess, and pray for us. We sure do miss her. Her brothers are still lost without her!

How about Treagan? He is having a great year thus far as a "fish". His grades are rocking, and hopefully they will continue to! He is loving band, and keeps us so busy with that. This coming Sat., we go to our first competition. If we advance, then next Sat. we go to Lubbock, then from there, STATE.... We are thinking positive and the band is looking good! They have worked hard. In the past, Sundown has been our toughest competition. We play them on Fri. night, so we will get a sneak preview of their band, and they will get one of ours. They are probably already shaking! Good Luck, Treagan Blake! You've got the beat! You make me so proud!

As for Toryn, a.k.a. Torynado. Would someone tell me where this kid gets his energy? Why won't he share some, cuz I'm lacking! I cannot believe this precious child has been with us ten months. In no time, we will be celebrating our first GOTCHA day anniversary. He continues to brighten our days, and brings so much joy our way. He has been going to Mother's Day Out two days a week. He really enjoys it, after he finally lets Dad or I out of the choke hold when we first take him. He is beginning to not do that every morning, so that helps. He loves being with the other kids, and it helps me to be able to do some housework. I cannot get ANYTHING done when he is at home. I'd rather be playing! Toryn is really enjoying watching the band. He is constantly "marching" around the house and "beating" on everything in the house. ("beating" translated to: beating the sap out of everything.) A couple of days ago, he decided he wasn't a drummer anymore, he was the director. He found two straws and used them as his directing batons. It was too cute. Praise the Lord, we finally found a wonderful speech therapist, and we started speech last week. Thus far, it is going great! Maybe things will progress soon. He talks all the time, but according to the speech therapist, we are pretty much the only ones that can understand him. Well, geeze!

P.S. We are getting real close to moving into our new church building soon. It is so amazing, and beautiful. God is so good. Food for thought: I was asked yesterday by one of my patients, why didn't the church just give all the money that it cost to build that big, pretty building, to the homeless and poor. Here's my thinking- Trinity Baptist Church consistently gives to many, many, many, and because they do, I believe God is blessing them. And you better believe...they won't stop giving. I happen to know one little sweetie pie they helped come home to his family. We are hoping to be in by Nov., so please come join us if you need a church home. God bless!

Termite and I had the opportunity to go to a Couple's retreat with our church. It was really good. It was held at the camp in Leuders, Tx. Everyone got shirts that said, "I love my wife" and "I love my husband". Termite took his off as soon as we hit the front door.....should I take it personally? LOL

I am loving me some Forsan Band!! I love this time of year because of football season, BUT I must admit, I'm there for the half time show! It's only a game without the band! I'm just kidding. The band is looking so good so far! Each week it is more and more exciting seeing how much more of the show they have learned! They are working hard to keep our State Championship Title! Tessa is really enjoying college. She has adjusted well. I'm not sure we have, because we still miss her bunches! She has not found a little job yet, but has a interview right now at a clothing store called Delia*s, which is in the mall. We are praying that it goes well if it is God's will. Treagan, Toryn and I went out to visit the Lansford's this week. Treagan and Tessa were on a mission trip when the Lansford's came home from China with their sweet KayLi, so they had not seen her yet. She is such a doll. She is very funny and we had a blast just watching her and her fiesty energy. We love you, Landsford's, and thank you so much for the goodies you brought us from China! I'm really jealous that you had so much shopping time! Actually, it's probably a good thing that we didn't because I probably would have gone wild!

These two crack me up. I guess it doesn't matter what your age difference is (in this case, 12 years), if your siblings, your going to bicker some. No exception here in this casa! Treagan will say, "but he started it!" ( And Treagan is usually right! Toryn does normally start picking on Treagan!) Then, I remind Treagan that he is only three and he is fifteen! I just did the hardest thing I think I've ever done. We took Tessa to college this past weekend. Even though I know this is all in God's plan for her, it still is a very sad time. I miss her so much already. I sure do like having everyone home under one roof, and it is just weird. For 18 years, you put everything into their lives, then with a blink of an eye, they are gone. How in the world can it possibly go by so fast? She has been such a good kid (thank you, Jesus), and brings so much joy into our lives. I am going to miss having that pretty smile around everyday. It is such a bittersweet thing...even though I miss her so,at the same time it is such an exciting time for her. It is such a blessing knowing she has chosen to go to Arlington Baptist College because of her love for God and her strong desire to please Him and to be used by Him in His ministry. God has blessed her with a beautiful voice and she wants to use that for His glory. So when she has made such wise decisions to only use her life to glorify His beloved name, how can I be anything but supportive? Of course, I'm going to miss her like crazy, but thank God that it's just down the interstate. (4 hours and 23 minutes to be exact! =o)

Tessa and her new roommate, Denisha, from Granger. We were almost done sitting up her room on Monday afternoon, when Tessa was told that she had to move rooms. Her roommate didn't show up and neither did Denisha's, so since they were both freshmen and couldn't have a room all to themselves, they put them together. At first, we were bummed, but then after she got moved, we realized it was a great move. Her roommate is so sweet and they share a lot of similarities. Also, her new suite-mates are both from Midland and are a lot of fun! So it turned out to be a great thing!

God gave another little child a forever family and for that, we give Him all the praise that He so righteously deserves! The Lansford's arrived home tonight from China with their sweet baby girl, KayLi. We had the priviledge of being at the airport in Midland when they arrived! As I entered the airport, it brought back such sweet memories. It seems like just yesterday that we arrived home to a wonderful homecoming with our little asian sensation, but it has been seven months already. In Miss KayLi walked just like she owned the place and she just walked up to everyone present and gave them a hug like she had known us all her whole little life. She is adorable! We are so blessed to have this sweet family as our fairly new friends. Again, it is so amazing at how God brings people into your life that you share such a sweet, cherished connection with. Welcome Home, Lansfords! You were truly missed! Welcome Home, KayLi- you are truly blessed to have the wonderful family God chose for you!

Last night, I hosted my Christmas Club friends. I love these ladies! It's so nice to visit and fellowship. Vickie, my friend from work, brought her daughter, Emily. Toryn had so much fun playing with her! She is such a cutie!

For those of you who have had the priviledge to carry on a conversation with Toryn on the phone, here's the smile you can't see on the other end. This kid LOVES to talk on the phone! I wonder where he got that! One hint, it's not from me! (Termite's by far worse than any teenage girl on the phone!) When Toryn talks to you on the phone, I always wish you could see his face. He smiles the entire time. This time, he decided to take a break and relax on the couch, but normally, he is walking around, with his hand on his hip, smiling from ear to ear!

We are so excited! Our friends, The Landsfords, are leaving today for CHINA! They will be picking up their precious little girl, KayLi. God is so awesome. The Landsfords moved to Forsan about 2 years ago, and they had been in the adoption process a little longer than we have. It's so amazing and fun at how God places people in your life with such a connection. Who would have thought that in little bitty Forsan, Texas, there would end up being at least three families who have adopted from China. God is so good! This sweet family is just precious and they have become some of our dear friends. Thank you, Lord, for sending the Landsfords to us! Please, pray for our precious little buddy, Corbin, or better known by me as String Bean! He is currently in a VERY serious surgery. We are asking for a miracle and God is totally in control! I started calling Corbin, String Bean, sometime back. Not sure why other than he really took a growth spurt at that time, and he became String Bean. He cracked me up one day when we were in China. I mentioned here on my blog that Toryn was long and skinny and reminded me of a string bean. I immediately received a email from Corbin telling me that he could not be called string bean, because that was his name. He's right, he is my String Bean!

Toryn received so many fun toys and nice gifts when we were given his shower. We literally didn't have room in our small house for all of the new toys. I had to put some in storage for a little while, which I hated to do at the time, but it was so fun today when we got them all out and brought them home. It was like Christmas or Birthday all over. He was so excited with all the "new" toys. He wanted to sleep with them all, but finally settled for just his green ball. It couldn't be close enough. He loves it! Sweet dreams my little man! I love you!

My sweet friend, Vickie, gave me this precious doll while we were waiting for our referral during our adoption. At that time, we thought our little one would probably be a girl. This is the most precious doll that I have ever seen, and it often cheered me up during the long wait. I cherish it so much, I haven't let Toryn see it because he loves "babies" (real and dolls) so much, I didn't want him to ruin her, but he found it today. He was so sweet with it, and had a lot of fun pushing her around in his stroller. Hmmmm, let's not tell his Daddy that he was playing with dolls! LOL Thanks, Vickie, we love her!

This week has been Vacation Bible School at our church. Unfortunately, I have had to work so I haven't got to help or even take Toryn, but thankfully, Tessa has been able to take him and help work it. She, along with many others, have told me that Toryn has just had a blast. They told me that on Monday, when the puppets came on, he was just mesmorized by them. Of course, I guess he had never seen puppets, so like many things, they were new to him. Tessa said that he was the only one standing up, just staring at them, trying to figure it all out.
One of the sweet things he does is he will pick up any book and ask if it's a Bible. Of course, we explain to him that it is just a book, and then show him one of our Bibles. I have been meaning to pick him up a little Bible, but just haven't yet. He always ask for his when we head to church. (Shame on me for not taking the time to get him one by now!) Yesterday, he came home with a little Bible of his very own. He is so proud of it! He has carried it around all afternoon, tucked under his arm, griped strongly so no one dares to take it from him. He LOVES it. This morning when we headed out, he had to put it back in its little box so it wouldn't get dirty. As I teared up (as always, with everything this child does), I thanked our precious Savior for allowing us to bring him home to a country where we are allowed to carry our Bibles. I pray Toryn will always cherish his Bible, for it is the most precious Book ever!

Whew, what a week! Can this really be? Me, old enough to have a high school graduate? Oh, the emotions! What an exciting time, but at the same time, it's very sad! In just a short couple of months, we will be heading down the interstate, dropping Tessa off for college. That makes me very sad, but I have to admit that it will be very exciting to see what God's plans are for her. Congrats, Princess! We are so proud of all your accomplishments and especially for the special young lady you have become! God bless you! Thank you for being the person you are, for the choices you have made, and for bringing us so much joy.

One of the neat traditions that our church does is each mother decorates a table in honor of their child displaying pictures and memobilia(sp) from their accomplishments and activities. For years, I have enjoyed viewing everyone else's, but decorating my own child's was much more fun! It made me realize how truly busy Tessa has kept us for the past four years. The kid was involved in everything! I'm going to miss all of these activities.

At our senior service at church last night, Tessa sang a song called "Follow Love" by FFH. She did a beautiful job and when I figure out how to make it into a YouTube video, I might put it on here for you to enjoy. For the meantime, I added it by FFH on my playlist, so that is what you are hearing. It's a tear jerker, so be prepared!

On Saturday, we went to Lubbock and spent the day with my aunt and uncle. It's always fun to go to their house! We enjoyed it very much. They had not met Toryn, yet. I know he had a really good time. Remember, when you become a mom, it brings with it bragging rights! I want to brag on Mr.Treagan. Treagan is in the 8th grade (almost a high schooler!). He plays the drums for our school band. A couple of months ago, the band went to a Solo/Ensemble contest. He made a Division I on his drum solo! Not only did he make a Division I, but they also chose a few students as "Outstanding Soloist", and he was chosen for that also! He does a great job on drums. Can't wait till he is in the high school band next year. Great job, son! You make me proud!

Funny story to share!

Last Thursday, we went back to Dallas for Toryn's six week post-op check up appt. We are thankful to report that it went well. Dr. Genecov was thrilled that everything has healed so well. We are very thankful and thank you for your prayers. We also had an appt. with the speech therapist. Toryn will need speech therapy two to three times per week. No biggy, other than I am having a difficult time finding someone here in town that does that. I have a couple of more phone calls to make and hopefully, we will be able to do that here in town.

After our doctors appt., we went to eat lunch. Termite ordered a chocolate cake with ice cream and hot fudge on top. I wish I had my camera with me, because Mr. Toryn was hilarious. He literally, and I'm not exaggerating, had one knee on the table, two spoons in one hand, and one spoon in the other hand, chowing down on that cake like there was no tomorrow. I said, "Hey, can I please have a bite?", and he replied, just as plain as day as he held up one finger, "Just one bite!". Oh, I love this kid! He makes me laugh hard! It's the little things in life.....that we take for granted. Like sucking through a straw. How simple is that? Easy for most, but can be a challenge for some. Those of you with cleft children know exactly what I'm talking about. You see, Toryn couldn't suck through a straw with his cleft palate. Bless his little heart, he would see Tessa and Treagan using a straw, and of course since he does EVERYTHING they do, he had to have one, too. He would try so hard to use it, and he just couldn't. He would get so frustrated, so finally I wouldn't let them use one in front of him. This week, we gave him a straw to try since he's had his palate repaired. It was the cutest thing. He would use his whole body to try, but he finally figured it out. The look on his face, when the substance entered his mouth through the straw was priceless. His eyes got big and his precious smile lit up his whole face. Job accomplished! Another milestone! Another HUGE thank you, Lord, for his successful surgery! Don't forget to thank God for the little things! To some, they might not be so little!

This boys LOVES to help! How great is that! We love it! (Now if he would just rub off on his brother and sister!) Today we found out he loves yardwork, too. It's a good thing, because there is plenty of it around this place! Can't wait to get the flower beds ready, so he can help me plant flowers.

Nothing like being behind. These pictures are long overdue! We FINALLY got back in our house, but things are still crazy! (There's no place like home!) Hopefully, soon things will be back to normal, WHATEVER that is. Between my ancient computer and my very energetic three year old who wants all of my attention (I LOVE IT!), I can't seem to download pictures and blog fast enough. I'm certainly not complaining though, I am having so much fun playing and reading to a toddler again! Thank you, Jesus!
It has become a tradition to dye eggs with my niece and nephew at my Mom's house. It was extra special this year, because Toryn got to join us for the fun. He wasn't sure about this "dying egg thing". He doesn't like, no, more like he HATES, for his hands to be dirty, so when the dye would get on his hands, he would freak out. He finally got the hang of using his spoon and not his hands.

Toryn loves yellow, so his first egg went staight for the yellow dye!

Just a quick note to let you know that Toryn's 2 week post-op appt. went very well yesterday! Dr. Genecov was very pleased at how everything was healing. He did say the area I was concerned with was just taking a little longer to heal, but he had no doubt it would eventually heal nicely. Thank you, Jesus! The best part was that he released us from the liquid diet! YeeHaw!!!! So we went to Chili's and ate lunch! Toryn enjoyed his grilled chicken, but not as much as the brownie and ice cream he shared with Termite. Can't thank you all enough for your many prayers. We will go back in 6 weeks and the doctor will decide what will be next, but he doesn't think we will have to rush into anything yet.

Last Saturday night, Termite and Tessa went to a Father/Daughter Ball held in Midland. It was put on by the famous Christian singing group, BarlowGirl. They got to have their picture taken with BarlowGirl. They had a really nice time.

My little red-neck husband can clean up well. He looked very handsome in his tux! (And he didn't even cut the sleeves out of it! hee hee)

Calling all Prayer Warriors, Please!

I am asking that you continue to pray for Toryn. (We deeply appreciate those prayers lifted up on his behalf already!) Like I have mentioned already, his palate surgery was March 19th, and was deemed successful. Since the surgery, there is a area that is not healing as well as the rest of it. We went back last Friday to have the stitches removed from his lip (which is looking great!), and the nurse looked at the spot that we were concerned with and said not to be alarmed yet, we would see how it looks in a week. (We weren't able to see the doctor, but the nurse has lots of experience in this area, too.) Since then, it has gotten worse and seems larger to me. We go back to Dallas tomorrow for our two week post-op appt. Please pray that the area of concern is healing and it won't require more surgery at this time. Also, please pray that we can be released from the liquid diet! Thank you all, and God bless,

We are home

The doctor released us about 9:00 am on Friday morning. Can't believe we actually went home after such a short stay, but they said Toryn was doing so well. I was really nervous about the doctor being so far away from home, but I guess the doctor knows best. The ride home went ok for the most part, he slept most of the way. (Again, thank the Lord for pain meds that the nurses gave him.) The biggest challenge is the eating issue. He wants everything we want, but he can only have food blended in the blender. The dietician told us that we could pretty much purify anything including pizza. YUCK!! That sounds so disgusting! We have started eating in hiding, so he can't see us. I feel so sorry for him. Please pray that these next two weeks will go fast. A good thing is that we didn't have to use the arm restraints. We will have to put them on if he starts to try to touch his lip and palate, but so far so good. We will just watch him like a hawk. I had planned on doing nothing but holding him and loving on him for these next two weeks. Man, you know I'm gonna hate that! NOT!!!!
Well, you know me... I take pictures of everything! Yes, I have before surgery pics and after surgery pics. My mom said she couldn't believe I didn't sneak in the OR room and take pics of the actual surgery! I couldn't find a way to sneak in there! LOL!!

At our pre-op appt. on Tuesday, they gave us some items to play with to help prepare him for surgery. His stuffed Tigger and Mickey Mouse had numerous surgeries that day!

Good grief! The things we do for our kids! When the nurse told me to get up in the bed with Toryn, I said, "You want me to do WHAT? You're kidding right?". As you see, she wasn't kidding!

He just wanted to be held after surgery. You can see who fought me for his turn!

Corbin, he loves his Mickey Mouse that you brought him from Disney World! He loves you, too!

Dr. Genecov was very proud of how well surgery went! We are so thankful that it was successful! He also said he was VERY impressed with how beautiful his lip looks. (I'm sure he's right once the swelling and stitches are gone.) Thank you, Lord, for sending Dr. Genecov our way! The kids were mad that they had his had all taped up, but after I explained that it was to hold the IV in so he couldn't pull it out, they understood.

The next morning....not smiling much, but being such a brave boy!

A great big thank you to everyone who lifted up our little guy in prayer today! We can feel them! Toryn had his surgery today to repair his palate in Dallas. They repaired his palate, revised his nose to look a little more cosmetic, and placed tubes in his ears. (The cleft babies usually have lots of fluid on their ears, which he did.) His poor little face looks like he was in a fist fight and lost! Lots of swelling and bruising, which is to be expected. The surgery was very successful, praise our good Lord! We know it was because of all the prayers! Dr. Genecov said he will need to work on the inside of his nose and do a little more to his lip at a later date, in about 3 to 6 months. I wasn't expecting another surgery so quick, but we will do whatever is recommended! Our doctor is awesome and very good at what he does! We are very pleased with him,his staff, and so far the hospital! (Thank you so much Kenny and Leasa for highly recommending him!) Toryn has slept most of the day, thanks to some good pain meds. Please continue to pray for him for the next two weeks. He is a very, very active three year old, and all boy! Keeping him down and his arms restrained so he cannot damage the repairs will definitely be a challenge. The doctor said tonight and tomorrow will be the roughest. We should be released either Fri. or Sat.
We are so thankful that God gave us this precious little guy. We cannot even imagine life without him. I often tell everyone that he just filled a hole that we didn't even know was empty, and it's so true. He has been such a blessing and brings such joy and delight to our family! Our God is so good! I just wish everyone could experience this amazing journey that we have been allowed to experience by our precious Savior. Adoption is truly a miracle. (And just for the record, there are several of you who I am praying that God will touch your hearts with adoption! Stop making excuses! ;o) ) Toryn has bonded with us and adjusted tremendously. God prepared this little guy for this huge change in his life long before we even knew he was the one God had for us! How awesome is that! I am in awe at God's goodness!
Thank you again for your prayers for us! Thank you for all you do! Thank you all for just being you! We love you all and cannot thank you enough for helping us bring Toryn home and into our lives! May God bless you all!

Life's A Zoo.....

It's Spring Break! YIPPEEEE!!! Don't have a lot planned, which is great! We did go to the Abilene Zoo yesterday. It was fun, and exciting seeing Toryn get so excited to see the different animals. Our main goal for this week is to get back in our house. That's a must! Toryn's palate repair surgery is next week, and I really feel like we need to be in our home when we return. We should be, they are painting and working on the flooring tomorrow, then they will come and clean later in the week. (the smoke damage) Please pray that they will be done, so we can move back home this weekend.

OH, NO, our first boo-boo! Toryn fell last night and hit the edge of the fireplace. Luckily, it didn't need stitches. We were suppose to have his picture taken today, but guess we will wait till next week! Those of you that know me, know that it is killing me that we haven't had his pictures done yet! Oh, well, whenever we have them done, they will be adorable!

Last Thursday, we had a doctor's appointment with the surgeon and the team that will take care of repairing Toryn's cleft palate. We were very impressed with the doctor and feel like God definitely led us to the right place for Toryn to receive the best care. Toryn's first appointment was with a dentist and I am very proud to say that he has no cavities! Yep, that made my day! He did so good, he just climbed up in the dental chair and opened wide. Made me so proud! His teeth are in excellent shape! That's my boy!

We then saw the surgeon, Dr. Genecov, who will do his palate repair. He was wonderful and was so good with Toryn. I was wanting to schedule surgery in the summer, but the doctor really wants to do it ASAP. He said the sooner we get that palate in there, the better for Toryn's speech. Since he is learning English so fast, with his palate in there, he will learn it the correct way first. That does make sense, so I guess sooner is better. We will go to Dallas on March 17th for pre-op and his surgery will be March 19th. PLEASE pray for Toryn, as this is not going to be an easy recovery. He will be on a diet of nothing but baby food consistency foods and his arms will be restrained so that he will not interfere with the healing process by touching it, etc. for two weeks. Pray for Termite and I also. Keeping a very active three year old down for two plus weeks will definitely be a challenge. I know God will be in control of this, too. I guess it will be better to get this behind us!

One of my very favorite hobbies is quickly coming to an end. (big crocodile tears!) I love, absolutely love watching my kids play basketball. I could sit there all day watching them. I can't believe Tessa is a senior. You are going to get real tired of me talking about this huge milestone in our lives. I don't want her to be a senior. Instead, I would love to be taking her back to kindergarten, but I must face reality. boo hooo hooo
Now, remember, as a mom, I have bragging rights. Tessa is a little stick of dynamite. Because of her petite (and adorable, I might add!) size, one's first impression would soon be changed by her ability to play ball. This girl is mean! She is all over that court. She has a heart for the game. She is a determined, hard working, and dedicated player. She could have easily given up, but she didn't. I know she must have been frustrated at times, when she wasn't given as much playing time, but instead she sat there, supporting her team, always giving 101%. Now that makes a real winner!
Their team has done an excellent job this year. They have won district and will head to the playoffs next week. GOOD LUCK LADY BUFFS AND COACH HILLGER!
And Tessa.... as your brother, Treagan, would say, "Go get 'em, Tiger!"!
I am so proud of you and your hard work!

Ok, now, everyone that knows me, knows that I am always weepy, crying at a drop of a hat! Yesterday was no different! Man, where does time go? My little princess turned 18 yesterday! It's just wrong!!!! It can't be......it was just yesterday that we were welcoming the princess into the world! It was just yesterday that I took her to kindergarten with that ear to ear smile! It was just yesterday that her daddy took her to junior high and walked her in everyday for the first semester. It was just yesterday that we surprised her with her first car for her 16th. And now, yesterday, Feb. 3rd, our little princess became an adult. In just a few short months, she will be headed down the interstate to college. Man, I need prayer! Can I really do this? Can I really be old enough to have an eighteen year old. Reality: Obviously, so! I have to admit though, it has been a real joy and blessing watching the Lord mold her into a precious young lady! Ms. Tessa, Daddy and I are so proud of you for the life and example you are! You have made such wise decisions and you have stood firm in your belief and I really can't wait to see God use you in mighty ways. He has an awesome plan for you, I just know it! Continue to follow His will, and you will be blessed beyond measure! I love you, Princess! HAPPY BIRTHDAY!
